This jacket is an original Dubow A-2 from their very last contract. This was a run of jackets done in 1944, in what appears to be only small sizes, and this was awarded to Dubow, along with a contract for Bronco and Perry at the same time. These jackets have the same pattern as the earlier large 27798 contract, but appear to be done in only dark brown leather.

The knits are of a dull purple hue, just like the earlier contract, and the lining often is seen in several shades of mid-brown. Our jacket has a more orange tint, but we've also seen a very earthy dull brown, along with the mustard shade of the earlier contract. The zipper is a brass Talon with blackened teeth. The Rau snaps all work just fine.

The leather is quite robust, and has a magnificent patina, from a large amount of use. The leather is somewhat stiff, heavy, and full of grain. There are no areas of concern, damage, or holes, but the finish shows a good deal of wear to the lighter color below.

The lining has rips in the neck area, along with nips in the waistband area, but we believe it should remain as is. The lining has some discoloration from UV light on folds as well. The knits are in rough condition, with the cuffs being shot. We are including a full set of knits with this jacket for free, and if we may advise a good company to replace them, one is greatleather.com. Dena Hamilton has done many jackets of this sort, and would do a fast, clean and excellent job of replacing the knits for those who care.

The zipper works great, but has a small amount of fraying of the cotton tape just by the insertion pin. This can be carefully handled and it will hold up well. Note the photo below. Otherwise, the jacket has no odors other than the tanning method, which is pleasant.
