We have a solid all-original U.S. Navy AN-6552 flying jacket. These were made towards the end of the war, when the Army and Navy were to share
flying clothing. The Army chose not to order any, so the Navy received all the contracts, including American Sportswear's order. Made in Utah,
these Navy jackets were made by a successful leather coat company with many civilian jackets in their catalog.

This jacket is in solid used condition, with signs of regular wear by the pilot. The leather has winderful color fading in the stressed and high
points, and the lining does show a small amount of soiling, but it's still complete and usable. The mouton has some small cracks, but those
are not even cosmetic. The knits do have holes, but we believe darning them isn't really worth it on a vintage historic jacket which should be left
as it stands. The thread is great, and the zipper operates just as it should.

We purchased this jacket from the son of the airman who it was issued to. He served from 1945-1949, learning to fly a Stearman, and then graduating
to the B-17 and B-24, with hurricane hunting being his trained occupation. His range of operations was from Florida to Puerto Rico, and then Europe.
After the war, he went to Duke, and then was influential in the petroleum industry.

One common detail of anyone in the military is that wet paint can be found anywhere. And flying wet paint spraying dots of white, or any other color, can
happen when on duty. This jacket has some small white dots spread around the front of the jacket. These dots can be carefully removed, but
we believe it's part of the charm of the jacket.

Overall, this is one solid example of a vintage small-contract WWII Navy jacket.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'9" to 6', with a chest of 40.5" to 41.5", and a weight of about 170-185 pounds. The jacket is shown
with a wearer who is 6 feet tall with a 41" chest, and it fits slender but comfortable.
