This jacket is the sample we used for our copy of the Beck 666 Racer. This jacket is in good wearable condition, and is a rather large jacket, being a size 48. We believe it dates to the mid-1960s, and has some details which are different than earlier Beck racers, though the overall pattern appears to be identical. We like the design of the Beck more than the Buco, and it looks sharp in the right size. The shoulders are certainly larger, and the sleeve tops more comfortable.

This jacket has no mention of the source of leather, equine or bovine, though it does look like typical horsehide from the period. The leather is hefty and strong, and there are no areas of weak leather or seams coming undone (nylon thread is wonderful!). There are folded areas which show edge-wear to a lighter shade, but all of those can be blackened if someone desires.

The lining is solid, but definitely has a few areas which are weak. That being said, this jacket has been worn by John for six months, and nothing has gotten any worse. The back lining panel has a rip which we backed with an iron-attachable cotton fusing internally. There's no reason to replace the lining, so closing this hole has firmed the area up. The sleeve ends have a number of holes in the lining, but again, this hasn't been a problem, and would be much work with little benefit if the sleeve lining ends were replaced.

The zippers are all good. Very odd that the sleeve end zippers have no markings, but the main zipper is a hefty aluminum Talon, and all the zippers work great. The chest pockets are big enough to place a wallet or cell phone inside.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'10" to 6'2" with a chest of 44-46", and a weight of about 190-210 pounds.
