This jacket is a Combat Clone reproduction of a Perry Sportswaer Type A-2. The jacket has been made with a soft and thin
American horsehide, but this was a test of backing that horsehide with a thin synthetic material (first time we've tried this).
The horsehide is now a bit on the thick and firm side, but is still comfortable. Each piece has the backing, but it cannot be seen.
We occasionally come across thinner leathers, and this was a test to see if such a technique would be possible. The material
is placed on before sewing, so there's no chance of it going anywhere. The jacket is still a bit puffy because it's not
yet broken in. More use will soften the leather.
After that, we did our usual Combat Clone treatment, so the jacket has a sublte vintage look to it. We would do more photos,
but it's been raining excessively here, so a photo session would be rather messy.
The patch is one by Jerome Urbaniak, purchased by us back in 2007, and the shoulder stencil is a new model that is fantastic.
The name tag could be replaced with one supplied by a customer, if that decision should be made.
Our Combat Clone series has been started by customer demand, and the results have been very positive to those
who like this kind of vintage looking jacket. Original jackets are sewn like this. Actually, most are far messier
in their stitching, but we have a limit to how far we will go in the Combat Clone series. The jacket is rock-solid, so
there's no need to worry about the jacket being weak. It looks vintage, and will age with strength and grace. For
comparison, an original in very worn condition can be seen at the end of the photos below.
Our Perry Sportswear A-2 pattern is based on an original from this contract that we took apart. Each piece was carefully
copied, and the resulting pattern is great. It's a comfortable fit, and looks sharp. The materials used are accurate
to this contract (some WWII horsehide Perry jackets are seal, though most are russet). The jacket has a very standard fit,
and will look great on a person with these dimensions: 5'11" to 6'2" (180.5cm to 188cm) and have a 43-45" (109.5cm to
114.5cm) chest.
Please let us know your dimensions (height, weight, and chest circumference), and we will know how well this
one should fit.
