This jacket is a test model of a format of cowhide that we have. It has been aged a little through sanding the surface (before cutting and assembly), but no more aging than this. The outdoor images are the best representation of the finish and color, and it's a great looking jacket. We have handled several original Dubow 1755 contract jackets, and they were made with seal brown leather, a dull orange lining, and dull purple knits, which this jacket has.

The leather is pretty cool, and is both soft and heavy. Cowhide was both tested and accepted by 1940, and many more original jackets were made in cowhide that most would suspect. There were whole contracts for "cowhide aviator jackets" for which researchers have found the paperwork in the National Archives. The lining is correct to this contract, and thread is mid-brown, which we've seen, along with OD #7 cotton thread.

Dubow's last A-2 contract dates to late 1943. They have the same pattern as earlier Dubow A-2 contracts (23379, 27798) with the simple collar design, and have pockets centered by the zipper, unlike some earlier Dubows which have imbalanced pocket position (the wind flap pocket tends to be much closer to the vertical seam of the body). One original we've owned is shown below, and note the color and how the finish wears on it.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'10" to 6'1 with a chest of 42-44", and a weight of about 180-205 pounds.
