This jacket is a rare Navy 55J14 G-1, made by the prolific company L.W. Foster. This pattern was used from WWII, in their AN-J-3A series, through the very first 7823 contract that they were awarded.

This Foster pattern has very wide shoulders and a snug lower torso, which looks quite athletic. The goatskin is wonderful, heavy and new feeling. The finish is excellent, and only shows a few small areas of wear. The lining is in immaculate condition, with only one tiny pin hole in the lower left front panel. We've never seen a lining this clean in any vintage G-1.

The knits are original, and the cuffs have some holes on the back side, seen in the photographs. The waistband has a few tiny darned holes that are quite small. The mouton has faded quite a bit, and has some missing fur in the front.

The original label was removed, and the USN scrubbed off (someone wanted to remove any notation of the Navy's ownership), so we've applied one of our Foster labels, along with a new USN stamp in the exact design of the original. The original Conmar zipper has a tiny rip at the base of the male side, but it holds up just fine with use.
