Foster. They were the among a small number of contractors who made massive numbers of jackets for the Navy, along with jackets for the Air Force. This is from their largest contract, DA-36-243-QM(CTM)2134. After one more contract, Lou Foster would no longer make leather garments, but produced leisure suits (this information from his grandson). His brother Irvin B. Foster and he argued over the company future, and Irvin left to start his own business, still making the iconic G-1 jacket, along with many other forms of military clothing. This jacket is a rare size 46, and it fits John very well. The jacket is in solid, used condition. The mouton hit the stage of needing to be replaced, along with the cuffs and the neck area of the lining, so all those were replaced. Vintage mouton was used, of the exact same color as the original when new. The neck area of the lining and label/hanger bar were all rather poorly aligned when new, so we did what we could to keep the first stitch holes properly filled. When worn, the jacket looks great. There are no stitch holes from patches or a name tag anywhere on this jacket. The original waist band has some holes and pulls, but not enough to be replaced. The original Conmar zipper works just fine. The goatskin has some surface wear along the zipper track, and in areas that get the most friction, but is just fine, and will be good for years and years to come.
