First, the contract is very small, the last of L.W. Foster's WWII pattern with the stitched pen slot on the left pocket, and second, the jacket was owned by a very distinguished Naval aviator and author. For the history of the owner of this jacket, Captain Robert Park Beebe, you can read a very well written page on his accomplishments here. A second biographical page is here. We have handled a few jackets owned by promiment aviators, but Captain Beebe is the most we've experienced to date. He served on the USS Lexington (CV-2), USS Saratoga (CV-3), USS Wasp (CV-7), USS Idaho (BB-42), and was the commanding officer of the USS Sitkoh Bay (T-CVE-86). This jacket is also rare due to its size. We've only seen a size 44 previously, but this is the first size 46. It's a very comfortable size 46, too. It's great to wear, and in quite good condition. The knits have a few small holes, not worth fixing, and the lining has some stains, but again, not worth fixing. The mouton is great. We replaced the Conmar zipper. It was made with an aluminum toothed Conmar, and those don't age well. The zipper had about 10 missing teeth. We have vintage Conmars of that period in identical material, but in fantastic-new condition, so we applied one to this jacket. This new zipper has the original slider, and operates with great ease.
