Vintage L.W. Foster G-1 Jacket

This vitnage L.W. Foster G-1 is from their last contract, the controversial one in which there was a legal battle with the government. The
contract was for 13,000 jackets, and an argument arose between the two about how the jackets should be constructed. After this, Lou Foster
no longer made any Navy jackets, but his brother, Irvin Foster, overtook production of Navy jackets for another decade.
This jacket is in near mint condition. Though there are some subtle signs of use, it's almost in a condition one would expect to find a
jacket coming out of the box from the factory. The great give-away that it's bee handled is that there was a name tag applied to the
chest, but that's been removed. Otherwise, the jacket is astonishingly clean. Even the uncut thread from production hasn't been removed
in a few areas.
The leather is wonderful...comfortable in weight (not overly heavy or stiff), pigment finished in dark seal brown, and in robust, flexible
condition, as if it were new, not 63 years old. The same can be said about the mouton, which is plush and still straight, with no signs of
fading or matting from sitting against skin. The lining is incredible, with the neck area showing no signs of any wear. The knits are superb,
still quite firm and tight, and the zipper works as if new.
The jacket would fit someone in the range of 5'10" to 6'2", with a chest of 42-44", and a weight of about 180-205 pounds.
