This jacket was made in January of 2015, and is the first reproduction we did of this rare Navy G-1 contract. Aviators Clothing Co. is Aero Leather Clothing Co.—the company changed their name in April of 1945, and moved to a larger building in Beacon, NY. They were given their first and only G-1 contract just after that time, and this is an exact reproduction of their product.

This jacket has been worn about 45-50 times, and at one point, had Coast Guard patches on the chest and left shoulder. Faint traces of the stitch lines can be seen. The goatskin is beautiful, with a dark outer finish that wears to a lighter, warmer shade of brown on the points that get the most wear. The knits are extremely solid, and the lining looks great, too. The mouton is period made, and period correct.

We took apart one original, have another in reserve, and were able to handle and photograph a size 44R, so there was plenty of reference material to create the pattern. The design is interesting, in that the shoulders are wide and comfortable, but the lower torso is tight compared with other makers. The jacket almost fits John, but is a little too tight in the lower torso. Someone a bit more slender would fit this jacket just fine.

The first zipper was a used vintage Conmar, but that zipper developed a rip in the tape. A new reproduction zipper was used in it's place, also blackened as originals were. All else is original to the jacket.

This jacket will ideally fit a person who is 5'10" to 6'1", with a chest circumference of 42-44", and weight of 175-195 pounds.
