This is by far, one of the better original Cagleco G-1 jackets that we've ever owned. The condition is near-new, almost as if it came from
the factory and was worn for a couple days. The typically weaker components are all in superb condition, and the jacket obviously was owned
by an airman in the late 1950s.
The goatskin is dense and of a very high quality, not thin or soft. The finish is near perfect, with only a little wear being seen on high
points of the sleeve ends, and even then, it's very subtle. The mouton is magnificent, with no issues at all. The lining is nearly perfect,
but with one small hole just above the label, which may have happened during production. The zipper operates perfectly. The knits, which
all-too-often on originals will have holes, are in as-new condition. They're still snug and in wonderful shape.
While we'd love to give you a history of the airman and the units he flew in, a common name like Johnson makes for hours and hours of
internet searches, which we've not yet done. The two squadron patches, Attack Squadron 151 (ATKRON-151) and Air Task Group One (ATG-1) were
both active in the late 1950s, operating from Essex-class carriers. The patches alone are worth quite a bit, and appear to be vintage-sewn
to the jacket. One can see stitch holes from a previous name tag. We wish the nametag in the jacket were sewn on straight, but as with
so many vintage items, sewing was done in haste at the time.
Overall, this is one amazing example of a vintage G-1, which is in a very common size.
The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'9" to 6', with a chest of 41" to 42.5", and a weight of about 170-195 pounds. The jacket is shown
with a wearer who is 6 feet tall with a 41" chest, with a good but slightly short-armed fit.
