Sear-Roebuck offered horsehide half-belt jackets for a good portion of the 1930s and into the 1940s. They had a specfic design, and we have advertisements from the period (thanks to Michael Manpearl). Two years ago, we were able to acquire an original from Damien Mosivais while in Los Angeles (monsivaisco.com), and we knew that copying this jacket would be an accepted challenge.

We believe that the jacket we own was made in 1936-1937, as the cuff shape and label are from that period. Later cuffs had V center point, rather than a triangle point at the button hole. Later labels had a different design. We took apart the original, as the photos below show what shape it was in.

This jacket is made with seal brown Italian horsehide, which is extremely high-quality, and we're proud to offer this. The leather ages beautifully, but is just as sturdy as any horsehide we've offered. The smell is wonderful, too. The lining is a plaid cotton weave, and the sleeves have cotton brown linings. Note the brown wool cuffs inside the leather cuffs.

We used leather on the inside of the leather cuff and back of the collar, but heavy corduroy may also be chosen. We will also consider including the felt collar neck guard, as that seems to have been available on most, if not all originals.

Notice the label. This is the earlier format of Hercules label, and didn't include the brand Sears-Roebuck. This is the label that was in our jacket, and our label maker produced a superb copy of it. We will soon have the smaller patent label for the inner collar guard, too.

This jacket will ideally fit a person who is 5'10" to 6'1", with a chest circumference of 41-43", and weight of 175-205 pounds.
