Several months ago, this jacket was made to prepare for a customer's Imperial half-belt jacket. Though we like the pattern we've had since 2013 which we call the Imperial, we know more about jacket construction now, and we've updated the design. This was the test model before making the customer's jacket, and we think it looks great.

This jacket has dense ChromExcel Horween horsehide, but it's not as thick as some that Horween has made. It's comfortable to wear, and though heavy, it's not as stiff as thicker skins would be. The finish is aniline, and it looks ever-so close to 1930s black horsehide. Though the leather looks black, it's actually a very dark brown shade, and will show this easily in sunlight. The lining is much like typical L-2B fabric, a Sunback rayon with cotton backing. It's not thin or thick, but has a warm essence, and slides on and off easily.

Note the new label. We designed the Imperial in 2013 to copy Hercules jackets from the 1930s, and in this case, the pattern is our own, not based on an original Hercules. We have since found and patterned an original Hercules, but some people still like this design more.

We mention the label because original Hercules jackets had a corduroy flap on the lining-side of the collar that could be propped up or folded down, and Rough Wear patented this design. We found an original label of Rough Wear's in a label manufacturing sample book dating back to 1940, and we copied that label. Rough Wear certainly made jackets of this design, both for themselves to sell with their own label that we used, and with Hercules labels that were sold through Sears-Roebuck catalogues.

The jacket was worn lightly several times. There are some wrinkles in the sleeves, but no stains or finish scrapes.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'10" to 6'1", with a chest of 41" to 42", and a weight of about 180-200 pounds.
