This jacket is a return, from a special order design. We were requested to make a Pancho Barnes jacket in a very small size, with
specific dimensions of sleeves and torso. It was very close to a good fit, but just needed to be a bit wider in the torso, so
we made a second jacket. This one won't be of interest to most, but for a smaller female who would want a more fashion-oriented
leather jacket, this one would do very well.
Please note the dimensions carefully, and know that it would most likely do well for younger females with shorter stature. It's made
with a soft steerhide that's close to black, but is a very dark brown. We have a fun wine colored cotton which was used for the thread,
and best of all, a vintage No.7 riveted Talon was used. We have a small number of these in shorter lengths, and this one worked perfectly
for this jacket. It operates as if new. Vintage buttons were used, and rayon from our usual supplier for Navy jackets. The buckles
on the side belts are the same format and size used on old Scully Bros. jackets from the 1930s.
The details of the jacket were gleaned from many photos of Pancho Barnes wearing her iconic jacket in the early 1930s. We believe she had
that jacket designed with her own preferences (not a stock pattern), as she had much of her clothing custom-made. It is an incredibly difficult
pattern to build, as it has to work with a severe angle on the zipper. Note the sewn button holes. Her jacket was made in that manner.
The lapels will sit evenly if the jacket is worn regularly, though the image of the jacket worn makes one lapel rest a bit farther out
than the other. The zipper inside the one makes that one a little stiffer. It can be shaped to sit evenly, as the collar photo shows.
The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'1" to 5'3", with a chest of 29" to 31", and a weight of about 90-110 pounds.
