This jacket is an original I. Spiewak & Sons Type A-2, from their 1942 contract. This jacket is a size 46, and is rather large compared with other size 46 original A-2 jackets that we've handled. The jacket is in superb condition, and would easily handle light use (i.e. no football!). The jacket has no bad odors, but only the very subtle smell of the tanning process, which is pleasant.

This jacket is made with russet goatskin, which is robust, soft and in great condition. The finish has a few areas of surface wear, but otherwise it is almost as new in how it drapes. There are no areas of weak leather or holes/thin spots.

The lining is in great condition, and the neck area, which usually gets the first holes, doesn't have any. There's one small hole (about 6mm) by the bottom of the zipper on the wind flap side, which can be seen in a photo below. Otherwise, the lining is superb.

The knits were replaced by us. The original knits were replaced with very poor quality knits that had to go, and we carefully applied the new knits using correct thread of the right color. These 100% wool knits have the right shade of brown for the contract, and are a little darker than the leather. We call this shade dark russet.

The zipper is original to the jacket, a strong Crown with no damage. It works very smoothly, and looks amazing. We always suggest to people who use original Crowns that they be careful, but with careful use, this zipper should last another 70 years with no trouble. The stitching on the jacket is just fine, very strong, and all looks good. The snaps are just fine, too.

Note that the jacket is a size 46, but it is a much larger jacket than the size 44 that we had—just look at the shoulder width. Usually on a size 46, the shoulders are around 19.75 to 20" wide, but this one is much wider.
