This is a very cool original Type A-2 jacket from WWII. Made by Star Sportswear, the jacket has both history and the used look that make originals look so good. The jacket was re-built (not by us, though we applied new throat hooks and collar snaps to the body). The jacket can be worn with confidence.

The horsehide is very solid. The lining is replaced using identical cotton tan broadcloth. The knits are also replacements, with almost an identical color as the original set. The zipper is original to the jacket, and works great.

We bought the jacket direct from the son of the pilot. The history we were given is: "It belonged to my Dad, an Air Force pilot in WWII and the Korean conflict. He was in the first jet fighter squadron ever formed and flew in India, Southeast Asia and Korea. His name was (name passed to buyer) and he spent 20 years in Air Force, retiring from the military as a major when Vietnam started to gear up." He lived from 1922 to 2004.

The jacket had gone through an Army Air Force depot before being supplied to the pilot. It has the remains of an AAF shoulder decal, and a small white decal on the inner facing of the wind flap. We do not believe that the leather was over-dyed. The original label and size tab were trandferred to the new lining, and we used our correct Star AN stamp and an AAF stamp in the lining.
