This jacket is a test jacket of the new goatskin we now have. It was purchased by a customer, very lightly worn several times, and then traded for an original Navy jacket. It has about 1-2 hours of use, which is near new condition. We took apart a size 44 original Church M-422A years ago for our pattern, and this is an excellent representation of what a new Church M-422A would look like.

The hides are soft, but have good weight. Each hide is quite large, making the cutting of panels and details more efficient (small goatskin hides are very difficult to use, as too much of the hide is wasted with unusable small bits). The finish is strong, but will show wear with lots of use on the high points. The smell is wonderful, typical of well-tanned leather.

Fun details Church is known for are: fold-edge pocket flaps, with very sharply sewn corners, slender leather tabs at the base of the zipper, front panels of the body rolled over the back panels on the seams, and angular wind flap, and the gusset leather is sewn over the sleeve leather where they join. Some originals have burgundy linings, and some have brown.

We've handled a good number of Church originals, along with the later company name Burjac Sportswear and their AN-J-3A and 55J14 jackets.

For comparison, here is a size 42 original M-422A from the same contract.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'11" to 6'1", with a chest of 42" to 44", and a weight of about 180-205 pounds.
