Type A-2: Monarch Mfg. Co.

Monarch Type A-2 Jacket » Russet horsehide Monarch

This jacket is a reproduction of a Monarch Mfg. Co. Type A-2. These jackets are quite unique among A-2 designs, and have a sharp, classy profile. We have copied the pattern exactly using an original that we took apart, and we have handled many other original Monarchs.

The fit is slender but comfortable. The jacket has inset sleeves, which allow for slightly more easy of arm motion. The collar hole is a bit smaller like a Dubow, and the front of the collar lays low on the body panels.

Monarch, as company standard, would sew the body seams of jackets with a stagger. If one compares the top leather panel to the lower leather panel on a joint, the top leather panel has only about 5mm of seam allowance, whereas the lower leather has about 10mm seam allowance. This allows the garment to be made quickly with no cut notches which are called "easing" in the folded top leather. Please note the diagram in the jacket images. Every Monarch jacket that we have handled has been made in this manner, from their Navy jackets to civilian jackets, and of course their A-2.

Jackets of this contract were made with blackened brass Talon triple-mark zippers with painted stoppers and sliders. We only have reproduction Talons and vintage triple-marked in nickel finish.

Details of this contract:
  • usually russet brown aniline horsehide
  • comfortable slender torso
  • non-collar stand
  • body shoulder seams underneath collar
  • right-side throat clip eyelets have washers

  • collar snap cap hidden underneath lining
